This spectacular destination is famed for its vibrant meadows of endemic alpine flowers and rich biodiversity. Every monsoon season, the valley transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors, blooming with more than 600 species of wildflowers including orchids, poppies, primulas, marigolds, anemones, and daisies.

History of the Valley of Flowers

The enchanting Valley of Flowers was discovered in 1931 by a group of British mountaineers led by Frank S. Smythe. After losing their way during an expedition, they stumbled upon the valley and were so mesmerized by its natural beauty that they named it the “Valley of Flowers.”

Itinerary

Day 1

Haridwar to Govindghat

The journey to the Valley of Flowers begins in Haridwar, with a full day of driving alongside the emerald Alaknanda River to reach Govindghat. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the river, with a stop for lunch enroute. Nestled on the banks of the Alaknanda, Govindghat marks the starting point of the trek to the Valley of Flowers. Take in the scenic surroundings and rest up for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2

Govindghat to Ghangaria

Start your day early with breakfast to begin the trek to Ghangaria village by 8 a.m. Along the trail, you’ll be treated to enchanting views, including waterfalls, small lakes, and sightings of rare bird species—all set against a beautiful backdrop. Pause for lunch midway and reach Ghangaria by evening, where you can rest and recharge.
Day 3

Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers and back to Ghangaria

On the final day of the trek to the Valley of Flowers, anticipate a moderate, short climb with breathtaking scenery along the way. It will take around 2 to 2.5 hours to reach the valley. At the entrance, the Ratban Parvat Peak greets you, with Nar Parvat on the left and a dense Birch Forest on the right. Spend some time here, immersed in nature’s beauty, before heading back to the camp at Ghangaria.
Day 4

Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib to Ghangaria

Begin the day with an early breakfast before heading to Sri Hemkund Sahib. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and a pristine lake, this spot is both serene and deeply spiritual. You may encounter rare blooms like the Brahmakamal and Blue Poppy along the way, though be prepared for some steep ascents. Once you arrive, savor the breathtaking views while enjoying hot tea served at the Gurudwara. Visit the nearby Laxman Mandir, and after lunch, make your way back to Ghangaria to relax at the campsite.
Day 5

Ghangaria to Govindghat

Trek back to Govindghat, a captivating destination nestled on the banks of the sacred Alaknanda River, with the Neelkanth Peak towering in the background. This site, rich in spiritual significance, offers a unique experience for those drawn to spirituality. Along the route, pass by sulphur water pools and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Arrive at your lodge by evening and unwind.
Day 6

Govindghat-Haridwar

In morning have breakfast and head back to Haridwar. Your trip ends here.
