The Valley of Flowers is a stunning alpine valley set at an altitude of approximately 3,600 meters above sea level. Every monsoon season, the valley transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors, blooming with more than 600 species of wildflowers including orchids, poppies, primulas, marigolds, anemones, and daisies.
The enchanting Valley of Flowers was discovered in 1931 by a group of British mountaineers led by Frank S. Smythe. After losing their way during an expedition, they stumbled upon the valley and were so mesmerized by its natural beauty that they named it the “Valley of Flowers.”
In addition to its vibrant floral diversity, the Valley of Flowers is home to lush sub-alpine forests of birch and rhododendron. The region also supports a unique variety of wildlife including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, red fox, gray langur, flying squirrel, Himalayan weasel, and the majestic Himalayan monal—the state bird of Uttarakhand.
